Getting Started

Hey,

As I'm sure you will have realised from the website my name is Emily and I'm the new Education Officer.

I thought I'd start by giving a very brief summary of what my job involves and how it relates to you. I'm elected to represent all students at the University on Academic issues within the University, locally and nationally. I'm also the officer responsible for looking after the academic and welfare needs of Postgraduates students. Alongside all this I also work with the other officers as a team to oversee the running of the Union - so it's a busy time as Education Officer.

I'm just into my second week in the job now, so am starting to get to grips with all the things that are going on. However the great thing about this job is that there are always lots more things to learn and new people to meet which makes it really exciting and a great challenge. With Graduation going on all this week the Union's a bit chaotic; having a jazz band outside my office window is fun, although I'm starting to know their playlist off by heart.

I'm really looking forward to getting stuck into the issues that can really make a difference to your time at Sheffield University and I want you to have the best experience possible! So if you have any suggestions, problems or queries then please feel free to get in touch with me, either by e-mail at emily.savage@sheffield.ac.uk or by coming to my office which is just above Coffee Revolution.
